Samsung Is Top Cell Phone Manufacturer While Google Android Is Top OS
comScore just released its smartphone report for the three months ending in September 2011. So before we get started this means all the numbers and values reported will not reflect the Apple's iPhone 4S which only launched in October. But there are a lot of tantalizing points to consider in the report.
The study was comprised of 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and from the data and extrapolating the numbers we can safely assume Samsung was the top handset manufacturer with 25.3 overall market share.
Google Android continues to grow like weeds in an unattended yard where the OS has reached 44.8 smartphone market share.
There are approximately 307 million people in the United States and there are 234 million Americans aged 13 and older who used mobile devices in the three month period ending in September 2011. Again, Samsung was the top manufacturer at 25.3 percent followed by:
- LG 20.6%
- Motorola 13.8%
- Apple 10.2%
- RIM 7.1%
Smartphone OS
Looking specifically at smartphone ownership during the study period 87.4 Americans owned smartphones. Google Android took the top OS spot with 44.8% market share followed by Apple iOS at 27.4%. Rounding out the third position was RIM with 18.9%. Windows Phone was in fourth place at 5.6%.
Just for kicks and giggles you'll be glad to know that text messaging on mobile devices has increased 1.5 percentage points to 71.1 percent of American mobile subscribers have sent or received a text message in the three month period ending in September 2011.
