iPhone Most Loyal Brand Followed by Android When It Comes to Smartphones

A recent study conducted by GfK revealed that 84 percent of Apple iPhone owners would choose another iPhone when it is time to replace their smart phone. While only 60 percent of those using Google Android smartphones would return to a smartphone running Android. Blackberry had the lowest level of loyalty with only 48 percent of current Blackberry users said they would return to a device from Research In Motion.

Approximately only 48 percent of consumers in the United States own a smartphone so there is a lot of competition to lock consumers into one smartphone platform especially as 70 percent of cellphone owners plan on remaining loyal to a particular brand.

Ryan Garner an analyst with Gfk, states that "Apple is clearly ahead of the game, but developments next year will challenge that."

Android is growing extremely fast and new Microsoft Windows, which plans to be unified across PCs, tablets and smartphones will definitely pose a challenge to Apple's reign as the top smartphone.

"The scope for brands to lure customers from rivals has diminished and the richest rewards will go to those providers that can create the most harmonious user experience and develop this brand loyalty," GfK said.
